A brave teacher

In the story “The Lemon Orchard” we will find a very particular character : A black man.In this story written by Alex La Guma , this coloured man will be intimidated by a bunch of white men.
The coloured man was discriminated because of being black. The “hotnot”, as he was called , was very scared of this captors because they were constantly threatening him and hitting him with a whip.He never answered at the mocking questions of the party, such as “Are you cold, hotnot?”.
The black teacher didn’t talk directly to the bunch of men, he always remained in silence and shivering with fear and cold, because he had been taken away from his house in his pijamas.
“Yes bass”.These were the only words that came out from the black man’s mouth .He never spoke to the bullies, he was very afraid of them, and when he called them “bass” he was speaking “with a mixture of dignity and contempt”.
From our point of view, the animal that best represents our character is the dove because this bird is recognised as a symbol of freedom.
The best quote that represents him and his attitudes is :”Yes bass, the bound man said, speaking with a mixture of dignity and contempt which was missed by those who surrounded him” this quote demonstrates that he was very brave because of the way he talked to them, and it also shows how intelligent he was because he talked towards them with contempt and they didn’t realised.
